An experienced executive in metals and recycling, David D'Addario has served as the chairman and CEO of Dada Holdings since 2001. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based investment and management firm makes both control and passive investments in a variety of sectors. David D'Addario concurrently guides ElementUS Minerals, LLC, which extracts valuable rare earth elements and other essential minerals from bauxite residues.
Bauxite mining can cause significant water pollution, which results from eroded topsoil and soil sedimentation following mining operations. Topsoil can be easily dislodged from a site by moving water, even after the site has been extensively cleared and prospected. This makes sites vulnerable to surface runoff and mud flooding. In either case, washed-off soil can deposit in nearby rivers and streams, polluting the water. Another common way that water pollution occurs is through the bauxite washing process, which separates clay from bauxite. The clay is washed away by water into nearby streams. In refineries where lax drainage systems are installed, some bauxite may wash away along with the clay. Exposure to bauxite can cause skin, heart, and liver problems. Companies like ElementUS are dedicated to mitigating the environmental and public health hazards of bauxite mining by extracting metals and minerals from bauxite residues. This does not require drilling or other invasive mining operations that generate clay and dust.
