David D’Addario serves as chairman and CEO of New Day Aluminum LLC. He also capitalizes on three decades of experience in the metals and recycling industries to direct operations at the New Day subsidiaries of Noranda Alumina and Noranda Bauxite. In a previous notable success at Wise Metals Group LLC, David D’Addario transformed that organization into a top performer, ranking in third place worldwide among all producers of aluminum can stock for the processed food and beverages industry.
Since Hans Oersted’s discovery of the element in 1825, aluminum has more than proven its worth as a central component in world industrial production. In 2017, industrial demand for aluminum in North America alone rose to more than 27 billion pounds in the eighth straight year of increased growth of demand for the metal. Strong growth in the automotive sector accounted for a significant share of this demand. The properties of aluminum, including its ductility, low melting point, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and light weight, make it a highly desirable element in the manufacture of a wide variety of contemporary products. These range from the aluminum foil used in many home kitchens to ultra-sophisticated fuselages used in the aeronautics industry. Window frames, soda cans, power transmission lines, safety reflectors, telescope mirrors, holiday gift wrap, toys and games, and numerous other items as we know them today would not be possible without aluminum. Aluminum offers the additional advantage of being 100 percent recyclable. And when recycled, it retains 100 percent of its original qualities.
